The candidate for the post of mayor general of Chisinau on behalf of the “Our” Party Ilian Casu considers corruption is the most serious problem of the local public administration of Chisinau. He made such a statement in the talk show “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.

According to Casu, the Chisinau City Hall faces a number of pressing problems such as poor sanitation, the waste dumps, lack of parking lots, but the most serious problem is the fact that the people are not protected from corruption and the wrongdoings committed by employees of the local administration.

Casu considers that there are sufficient financial resources for the infrastructure-related problems in Chisinau to be solved. “The reports by the Audit Office show that the financial resources in the municipality of Chisinau are not managed efficiently. If the funds had been used appropriately, they would have been enough for covering the costs. There is also the prospect of foreign investment. If the foreign investors see that the local administration is not corrupt, they will invest money in the infrastructure of Chisinau,” he stated.

Asked if he is pro-European or pro-Russian, Casu avoided giving a concrete answer, saying he is for strengthening Moldova’s statehood. “I lived for a long period of time abroad and I know and appreciate such European values as democracy, freedom of expression and the human rights. Regretfully, the ruling political class discredited the notion of pro-European. If I say that I am pro-European, the people may not understand me correctly. I’m for the state Moldova. I think there is no place for geopolitics in the City Hall,” he stated.

In the same talk-show, Ilian Casu denied the rumors that he could withdraw from the electoral race in favor of the Socialist candidate Zinaida Grecheanyi.
