Ilașcu group to get former political prisoner’s pension from Romanian state

The four political prisoners who were sentenced to long jail terms in 1993 by a tribunal of Tiraspol - Ilie Ilașcu, Alexandru Leșco, Andrei Ivanțoc and Tudor Popa - will benefit from pensions from the Romanian state. The law stipulating this was promulgated by the President of Romania on August 7, its author, Romanian MP Eugen Tomac informed, being quoted by IPN.

In a posting on Facebook, Eugen Tomac wrote that the four Romanian citizens enjoy now the fully deserved recognition and appreciation of the Romanian state, after an effort that lasted for over ten years.

Ilie Ilașcu, who is from Făleșt district, was senesced to death, but was set free in 2001. Alexandru Leșco got 12 years and was released in 2004, after serving the whole illegal sentence. Andrei Ivanțoc and Tudor Popa got by 15 years and were set free in 2007.
