The Chisinau Appeals Court accepted the application of the lawyers of mayor of Orhei Ilan Shor and transferred this from remand detention under house arrest for 30 days, IPN reports.

The court ordered that Ilan Shor should hand over his passport to the prosecution body and banned him from leaving the home or receiving guests.

The lawyers described the court’s decision as a small victory. “In accordance with the practice of the European Court of Justice, house arrest is the same arrest. Normally, Mister Shor should have been released from judiciary control,” said one of the lawyers.

Ilan Shor was arrested on June 22 this year on charges of swindle and money laundering in a case concerning bank frauds at Banca de Economii.
