The mayor of Orhei Ilan Shor will leave office for the period of the election campaign. Shor made the announcement in a news conference on January 11, IPN reports.
Ilan Shor said his duties in the period will be fulfilled by his deputy Diana Memeț. “She is a professional who knows all the problems of our town and, what is more important, knows how to solve them,” stated the politician.
Ilan Shor heads the Shor Party’s list of candidates for MP in the national constituency. He will also run in single-member constituency No. 18 Orhei.
The Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court on June 21, 2017 passed a judgement by which Ilan Shor was sentenced to seven years and a half in jail for causing considerable damage to the state by swindle and abuse of trust. The same day, Ilan Shor was released from house arrest and will be under judicial control until a definitive sentence is given to him.
The sentence of the first court was appealed by the prosecution and the defense and by the representative of SA Banca de Economii. The case reached the Chisinau Appeals Court in only six months and in February was transferred to the Cahul Appeals Court. The next hearing was scheduled for January 21 after being postponed for several times.
