Ilan Shor in remand for 30 days

Mayor of Orhei town Ilan Shor was remanded in custody for 30 days, based on a decision by the Buiucani Court. State prosecutor Adriana Betisor said the mayor is accused of swindles and money laundering committed when he held the post of president of the Administration Board of Banca de Economii, IPN reports.

According to the prosecutor, the Court took such a decision on the grounds that Ilan Shor could influence persons with whom the prosecutors cooperate if he is on the outside and could continue to transfer money to accounts of nonresident companies.

Ilan Shor’s lawyers expressed their indignation at the position of the prosecutors and judges. “There are no reasons for satisfying the prosecution’s request to hold Ilan Shor in remand for 30 days. The reasons for arresting Ilan Shor are declarative and there is no evidence. These are based on opinion, while the opinion cannot be a reason for arrest,” said lawyer Denis Ulanov.

The mayor of Orhei didn’t come to the hearing for health reasons. The lawyers said that Ilan Shor had chest pain and asked for medical assistance. On June 22, Ilan Shor was arrested for 72 hours.
