The Buiucani-based Court of Chisinau on June 21 sentenced the ex-president of the Administration Board of Banca de Economii Ilan Shor to seven years and a half in semi-closed jail for causing considerable damage to the state by swindle and abuse of confidence.
The sentence can be appealed to the Chisinau Appeals Court within 15 days. Ilan Shor, who during the trial was under house arrest, left the court of law when the judge withdrew for deliberations, IPN reports.
After the sentence was pronounced, the prosecutors said they do not agree with this and will challenge it in the Appeals Court. They asked for 19 years in jail for the businessman.
Ilan Shor’s layers are also decided to appeal the sentence to the higher court.
The Court of Chisinau also ordered to sequestrate property owned by the businessman. The motivated sentence will be published on July 17.
