Igor Trofimov fired as MIA secretary of state

Igor Trofimov was dismissed from the post of secretary of state of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). A decision to this effect was taken by the Cabinet at the suggestion of Minister Adrian Efros, IPN reports.

The minister said the proposal to dismiss Igor Trofimov was formulated based on the resignation tendered by the latter. Trofimov will stop fulfilling his duties on September 6.

Two days ago, Minister Efros told a news conference that he will propose dismissing a secretary of state of the MIA following the internal and administrative injury conducted after the tragic shooting incident at the Chisinau International Airport. Also, nine employees of the Border Police and the head of the General Border Police Inspectorate Rosian Vasiloi were punished disciplinarily. Four of them were fired.

A border guard and an airport security officer were killed at the Chisinau International Airport on June 30, 2023 after a citizen of Tajikistan who was banned entry into Moldova fired at them after grabbing the firearm of the first. The individual was hurt during the siege and died in the hospital several days later. The body was repatriated to Tajikistan by relatives.
