Ex-Minister of Education, Culture and Research Igor Sharov officially took up his duties as the rector of the State University of Moldova (USM). The order to confirm him to post was signed three months after he won the contest. Sharov accuses the current administration of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of intentionally putting off the process so as to damage his image, IPN reports.
Igor Sharov was chosen rector of the State University of Moldova on December 16, but the order to confirm him to post was signed by the Ministry of Education only two days ago.
“What had happened during these three months is very serious. I and my colleagues were ready to sue the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, but we ultimately didn’t have to. The entire period was used to denigrate me. But I and my team didn’t resort to speculations and didn’t attack anyone,” Igor Sharov stated in the talk show “Fourth Power” on N4 TV channel.
Igor Sharov said that he could not fulfill the duties of rector in the period and this affected the functionality of the university.
“In the period, I could not put into practice the program with which I won the contest and could not meet with ambassadors. I entered the rector’s office only yesterday as I wanted to be correct,” he stated.
Among his priorities as the rector of the USM, Sharov mentioned the ensuring of the security of the education process in times of a pandemic, transformation of the USM into a higher education establishment similar to those from the West.
“The improvement of infrastructure, more possibilities for teachers, internationalization of the programs of study, adjustment of the USM’s policies to the realties in the West or we risk losing a large part of the students who go abroad. We can keep them only if we ensure better conditions,” stated the rector.
Igor Sharov served as a Minister of Education, Culture and Research in the Chicu Government until November 9, 2020, when representatives of the PDM in the executive were dismissed following the Democrats’ announcement that they decided to withdraw from the government.
