Igor Munteanu: No one should decide instead of Moldovan authorities if citizens will receive electricity or not

The Republic of Moldova should make maximum effort to get rid of weaknesses so as to efficiently negotiate its chances of accession to the European Union and to attract the first pre-accession funds within the shortest time possible, alongside the acceleration of reforms in justice, economy and education, eliminating kleptocratic influence and other challenges that are hostile to its European aspirations, the president of the Coalition for Unity and Welfare Igor Munteanu stated in the Black Sea Security Forum that was held in Bucharest.

In Europe, the Republic of Moldova is among friends, while Romania is the anchor of economic and political stability on which it can count in the accession process. However, the Republic of Moldova should generate more internal resilience and should eliminate the influence of pro-Kremlin proxy groups, which would like to keep the status quo in administration and business, by firmly removing the leverage that the regime in Tiraspol would like to keep over the energy system of the Republic of Moldova. The Republic of Moldova’s success will depend on its capacity to impose its political agenda on the occupied territory and to impose conditions relating to the liberalization, democratization and demilitarization of bodies in Tiraspol for allowing Transnistrian companies to access the foreign market.

Igor Munteanu noted that this requires strategy and capabilities that the Republic of Moldova should develop and apply. The country will never be safe with foreign military and paramilitary units on its sovereign territory. The Republic of Moldova should urgently eliminate the energy blackmail and should connect its consumers to the European electricity and natural gas market by eliminating any suspicion that there are no political will or capabilities in this regard.

“No one should decide instead of the Moldovan authorities if the citizens will receive electricity or not,” the president of the Coalition for Unity and Welfare Igor Munteanu stated in the Black Sea Security Forum in Bucharest.
