Igor Munteanu: Government should show greater openness to the public and civil society

For the PAS government to manage to bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the European Union, it should show greater openness to the human potential existing in the country, said the chairman of the Coalition for Unity and Welfare (CUB) Igor Munteanu. According to him, the current Government has to negotiate the 35 chapters of the acquis with the EU, but it will not succeed if it does seek support from all the professionals from the field. The lack of openness to civil society and the extraparliamentary parties was emphasized also by jurist Ion Dron, who said that the PAS fully isolated itself from the citizens, IPN reports.

The CUB chairman noted that the current government considerably lost the citizens’ trust given in the elections of 2021. To keep the population’s support for the European course, the Government should show greater openness and should co-opt all those who have the necessary expertise into the European integration process.

“The current Government will have to work hard for the 35 negotiating chapters to be in good hands. Regrettably, we do not have sufficient administrative minds, administrative capacities and we do not see openness to the competence that is absent in the Government. The citizens who are for accession to the EU represent 56-61%, while the rating of the PAS is only 24%. This means that a large part of the pro-European citizens do not fell represented by the current government. Being inclusive is the only method of increasing the support for the Government. This should discuss more with social groups and should not focus on the idea that it enjoyed massive popular support in 2021 as that support is history. There should be now more openness to the public, civil society, extraparliamentary parties, the academic community,” Igor Munteanu stated in the program “Résumé” on RliveTV channel.

The chairman of the Party for People, Nature and Animals (PONA) Ion Dron said that after taking over, the PAS government launched the process of cleaning the system, dismissing persons according to political criteria, and now the Government is short of staff.

“This government received a massive credit of trust, but refuses to give back this trust. They isolated themselves as a sect and this bewilders. The people live with the feeling that they are on their own, while the representatives of the government live in their parallel world. The current government has a huge communication problem. It is not open. It wants to discuss only with those from inside. When they came to power, they said that they have managerial skills and made people redundant, but now they have to recruit those who left so as to be able to do the homework,” stated jurist Ion Dron.

On Thursday, Parliament gave a vote of confidence to the government program and the Cabinet led by Dorin Recean. The major goals of the government program entitled “Prosperous, Safe, European Moldova” are to strengthen institutions, to build a competitive business community and to ensure the European integration of the Republic of Moldova by opening accession negotiations with the EU.
