Any proposals coming from Nat Rothschild regarding the purchase of "Avia Invest" company, the concessionaire of Chisinau International Airport, are toxic and cannot be accepted. Whoever tries to take over the contract from Ilan Șor becomes accessory to his schemes as he is being prosecuted, he has open cases and sentences to serve in the Republic of Moldova. The statement belongs to the MP of ACUM bloc, the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry for analysing the organization and conduct of the privatization and concession of public property, Igor Munteanu, IPN reports.
"Even for a bigwig with hidden intentions, such as Ilan Șor, it is not so easy to find a company that will take poisoned shares even in offshore regime. Everyone realizes that the right belongs to the owner who is the state and the Government of the Republic of Moldova,” mentioned Igor Munteanu on "Punctul pe azi" TV show, TVR Moldova.
The deputy argues that the attempt to sell "Avia Invest" shares has happened precisely now because Ilan Șor realized in despair that he has no short-term solutions. "It happened for this exact reason, not because the current Government does not care about public property," said the MP.
Igor Munteanu explained that Chisinau International Airport has been actually modernized from the 9-euro fee paid by every passenger, but not from the concessionaire's money, who was obligated under the contract to make investments including in the infrastructure of the airport. “As soon as the contract was signed, in 2014, 44 million euros had to be invested. However, there is no evidence that "Avia Invest" would have invested this money," said the MP. According to him, the second investment stage constituted 115 million euros and should have started at the moment when the number of airport passengers had reached 2.6 million per year. This figure was attained and even exceeded in 2017, hence the investment should have started immediately.
The MP says that former leader of the Democratic Party, Vladimir Plahotniuc, and the associated groups have always stood behind "Avia Invest". "When the shield and the support disappeared, Șor could not cope with the situation and tried to sell quickly the shares to the two companies -" Comaxavia ", which was bought 100% by Rothschild and " Avia Invest ". However, the law stipulates that the sale of "Avia Invest" shares must be done at the Registration Chamber, and so they failed. Due to our notifications, the shares of "Avia Invest" had been seized and when Rothschild came, he failed to make the last transaction that would have probably been deadly for this asset, "noted Igor Munteanu.
On the other hand, on August 29, NR Investments Ltd, which belongs to Nat Rothschild, announced that it had completed the process of buying 95% of the shares of Avia Invest Ltd, Chisinau International Airport concessionaire company.
