Igor Munteanu: Accession negotiations should start with a more experienced government

A turbulent period starts in the Republic of Moldova and the risks to which the country is exposed were assessed in a meeting at the Presidential Palace last Sunday evening, said PAS MP Radu Marian. According to him, the MPs analyzed the work done by the ministers, but eventual Cabinet reshuffles will be announced by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița. For his part, the chairman of the Coalition for Unity and Welfare (CUB) Igor Munteanu said the citizens’ dissatisfaction with the Government’s work is justified and the accession negotiations with the EU should be launched by a professional government team, IPN reports.

PAS MP Radu Marian noted the November 13 meeting of the PAS MPs and ministers with President Maia Sandu was an ordinary one. The PAS parliamentary group was informed about the energy and security risks to which Moldova is exposed. There were examined the cybersecurity risks following the hacking of Telegram accounts of a number of officials. If the government team is modified, the Premier will make the relevant announcements.

“We treated political, security issues. It’s normal for the MPs to also know the risks. What shall we do if the gas supplies are interrupted? What shall we do with the stealing and war grouping that tries to cause chaos? A very turbulent period will follow. It is the last attempt by the Kremlin and the mafia to upset our pro-European course. We also discussed the work done by some of the ministries and particular Cabinet reshuffles. We reached conclusions, but the Premier names the ministers and should also make those announcements. As long as Natalia Gavrilița is supported by the parliamentary group, she will continue work,” Radu Marian stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

However, the CUB on Monday demanded that the Cabinet should resign. In a press release, the party noted that amid the economic and social crisis, the Government formed in 2021 now witnesses an interminable parade of conflicts, press scandals and internal struggles. CUB chairman Igor Munteanu said the government team’s failure can no longer be shifted onto the geopolitical conjuncture.

“The decision belongs to the parliamentary majority, but we should take into account the wish of a large part of society to see more results. Before saying that all the problems are caused by Russia, by mafia, we should also ascertain the growing dissatisfaction with the rise in prices of products, charges. We want the process to negotiate the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the EU to be launched by a more experienced government, with greater capacities,” stated Igor Munteanu.

According to unofficial reports, the Cabinet is to be taken over by presidential adviser Dorin Recean. Recently, Jason Jay Smart, a former adviser in the U.S. presidential elections, posted on Twitter that Dorin Recean is going to be the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova. The information was later refuted by representatives of the PAS. The Cabinet led by Natalia Gavrilița took up its duties on August 6, 2021.
