Igor Grosu’s candidacy between disappointment and nice surprise

President Maia Sandu’s decision to nominate Igor Grosu for Prime Minister divided the MPs. The PAS said their representative will come before the MPs with a good government program and a professional team that would manage the pandemic crisis. The Socialist MP and the MPs of the PPPDA are disappointed with Igor Grosu’s candidacy, while the Pro Moldova MPs say this nomination can bring the political crisis in Moldova to an end, IPN reports.

Pro Moldova leader Andrian Candu said he expects that Igor Grosu will come with a proper program for managing the pandemic crisis and for unlocking Moldova’s relations with the IMF so that the Government is given a vote of confidence by Parliament and the political crisis in the country is solved.

“It is a nice surprise because things move in the correct direction and will lead to the solving of the political crisis. Strictly from juridical viewpoint, as Mariana Durleșteanu withdrew, Maia Sandu acted correctly, in accordance with the Constitution. The fact that Dodon took part in consultations shows that he was admitted to the discussions and Mariana Durleșteanu’s message appeared immediately and the candidates was then nominated. Things happened in a synchronized way,” Andrian Candu stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

On the other hand, the Socialists say the parliamentary majority will soon provide another candidate for Prime Minister and the President will have to nominate this.

“Igor Grosu will also remain in history as a candidate for Prime Minister who didn’t garner any vote.  At the same time, a majority of MPs could sign for Andrei Năstase, for example. In such conditions, Maia Sandu will be obliged to nominate the parliamentary majority’s candidate,” said Socialist MP Grigore Novac.

The representatives of the PAS said they will not give up the idea of having snap parliamentary elections, but these elections should take place after the pandemic situation improves.

“Igor Grosu is a very good candidate. He has all the necessary qualities for managing a Government. He will propose a very good program. The management of the pandemic crisis will be the key priority of this Government,” stated PAS MP Sergiu Litvinenco.

The MPs of the PPPDA are disappointed with the President’s decision and ask for more predictability in actions from Maia Sandu.

“It was a surprise for us as the spirit of today’s discussions was different. The name of Igor Grosu wasn’t uttered in the discussions. Changes happen daily. We would like more clarity and more predictably to come from the presidential administration,” said PPPDA MP Vasile Năstase.

Under the law, the candidate nominated as Prime Minister has 15 days of the signing of the presidential decree to form a governmental team and draw up a government program and to ask for a vote of confidence from Parliament.
