Igor Grosu: We will soon present PAS candidate for Chisinau mayoralty

The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) in the near future will make public the name of its  candidate for mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau, said the party’s leader Igor Grosu. The politician refused to comment on rumors saying that MP Lilian Carp is the PAS’ candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau. He noted that the dialogue between Chisinau and Comrat after the first round of the Bashkan election held in Gagauzia will be very pragmatic, IPN reports.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu assured that the local general elections of this year will not be cancelled and will be held in accordance with the Electoral Code, either on the first Sunday of November or on the last Sunday of October.

“We will soon present the PAS’ candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau. There are internal procedures and we need to consult the local organizations. This process must be covered. I neither confirm nor refute the candidacy of Lilian Carp. We will reach that moment and will see,” Igor Grosu stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei cannel.

The Speaker noted that the government will have a pragmatic relationship with the future Bashkan of Gagauzia no matter who takes over in the region after the runoff vote. The future governor of Gagauzia will have to decide if he/she is pro-Kremlin or wants Western funds to develop the territorial–administrative unit.

“After the May 14 Bashkan election, the dialogue will be very pragmatic. I will ask them to decide their orientation. One cannot wake up pro-European in the morning and say that we must benefit from European, American and Romanian grants, while in the evening to be pro-Kremlin. We must clarify things. As regards the representative of the organized criminal grouping, we cannot have any dialog with such a person. If this is what the citizens from the territorial–administrative unit want, it will be their choice and they should assume it. They should realize that they will be governed by a person who represents an organized criminal grouping. We do not discuss with the bandits,” said the Speaker.

He added that he does not know any of the two candidates who reached the runoff vote of the Bashkan election in Gagauzia – the representative of the Șor Party Yevgenia Guțul and PSRM-backed independent candidate Grigori Uzun.

“I don’t know any of the two. Uzun sat in Parliament, but he was so silent that I didn’t hear his voice,” stated Igor Grosu.

The Bashkan runoff vote in Gagauzia will take place on May 14.
