Igor Grosu in Romania’s Parliament: Let’s combine forces to build common future

The Republic of Moldova turns open, transforms itself and wants to work to ensure security, prosperity and development, alongside its partners. “I’m here to transmit a message of confidence and a call for action: let’s combine forces to build a common future here, at home! In Europe!” Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu stated in the opening of the second 2021 session of the Romanian legislative body, IPN reports.

The Speaker thanked Romania for the constant and always opportune support offered to the Republic of Moldova during the three decades of the declaring of independence. “Romania is the main advocate of the Republic of Moldova in its European integration aspirations and I hope that the next few years will be decisive in our effort to come closer to the European Union,” he stated, appreciating Romania’s assistance in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and saving thousands of human lives.

In another development, Igor Grosu said that after last autumn’s presidential elections and the extraordinary parliamentary elections, the Republic of Moldova is returning to the correct road after wandering for years. It is the road to development and modernization by the Western model, which will lead to freedom, justice and prosperity as part of the European family.

The Speaker noted that the presidential administration, the Government and Parliament of the Republic of Moldova have now a firm mandate to clean, develop and open up the country. After tens of years during which the state worked not for the citizens, but for a narrow group of people who captured the state, the time of change came in the Republic of Moldova. “It’s time to launch good times for the Republic of Moldova, to develop by accelerating the European integration and to work closely with those who have the necessary expertise and experience. I think about Romania here first of all,” he stated.

Igor Grosu said he believes Moldova and Romania witness an extraordinary moment in the bilateral relations at political, parliamentary and governmental levels and also at societal level as compatibility is complete. There is now a historical chance to achieve the common objectives for the benefit of the citizens from both banks of the Prut.

The official expressed his confidence that the two states can turn the interparliamentary relationship into a key point of the brotherly and strategic partnership both in the European integration process and when dealing with the challenges, such as the pandemic, sustainable economic growth, population decline, growing economic and social inequalities. The two states can cooperate to find the best solutions and can achieve the common objectives needed by the citizens of both of the states by the identified concrete solutions and by the available instruments.

Igor Grosu is paying an official visit to Bucharest at the invitation of the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania’s Parliament Ludovic Orban.
