The MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity Igor Grosu was elected Speaker of the Parliament of the eleventh legislature by the votes of 64 MPs, IPN reports.
The Parliament Speaker was elected by secret ballot.
According to the head of the special commission for the election of the Parliament Speaker Sergiu Litvinenco, 104 ballots were printed in total. Forty ballots weren’t used and were annulled. The other 64 used ballots were valid.
Igor Grosu was invited to take his seat in the presidium. The standard of the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova was honored and was then handed over to him.
Igor Grosu thanked for the honor to serve as the Speaker of Parliament given to him. He assured he will be a Speaker that places Parliaments at the service of the people and transforms it into a factory of good reforms, laws and decisions. The people’s trust in Parliament can be rebuilt by work and honesty. Obeying the Constitution and the country’s laws, the MPs will work to reform the justice sector and to ensure the functionality of the institutions so as to develop infrastructure and local communities, to support the business community and create jobs and to strengthen the foreign relations. The Speaker invited the MPs to start work and to focus on the undertaken commitments.
Ex-Speaker Zinaida Greceanîi was handed over a copy of the standard of the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. She called on the politicians not to struggle between them, but to work together. She said the MPs should be proud of the work they will do in Parliament. They should not be ashamed to look into citizens’ eyes and should not betray their motherland, the Republic of Moldova.
