Igor Grosu and Dragoș Tudorache about consensus and European prospects

The European partners will try to base the interaction between the parliamentary groups in the Republic of Moldova on political consensus. As to the European integration, in June Brussels could provide a response to Moldova’s application for EU membership. The issues were developed by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Dragoș Tudorache, the rapporteur of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs on the implementation of the EU-Moldova  Association Agreement, in a news conference, IPN reports.

The consensus is the goal of the Jean Monnet Dialogue for the Republic of Moldova, whose launch coincided with the presentation of the questionnaire designed to open one more door for Moldova’s entry into the EU. At the same time, the application of this instrument was agreed within the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the European Parliament that was signed in Brussels on November 29, 2021.

“The citizens of the Republic of Moldova gave a powerful vote to the country’s European course,” said Igor Grosu, noting that the choice made by the citizens requires broadly reforming the state, fighting corruption, creating an independent judiciary and ensuring the rule of law, re-launching a sustainable economy that can ensure the citizens’ prosperity and strengthening the administrative and institutional capacities so as to implement the Community aquis.

The Speaker voiced hope that the parliamentary opposition will support the efforts taken at the level of the European Parliament by showing political maturity for achieving the consensus that is so necessary for the country’s future.

For his part, MEP Dragoș Tudorache said that during his visit he had meetings with Speaker Igor Grosu, Deputy Speakers Mihail Popșoi and Vlad Batrîncea, representatives of all the parliamentary groups and chairpersons of parliamentary commissions. He also met with the Parliament’s Secretary General Tamara Gheorghița and employees of the legislature’s Secretariat.

The Jean Monnet Dialogue for Peace and Democracy is an instrument developed by the European Parliament as a soft tool in the area of parliamentary mediation and dialogue. With the Jean Monnet Dialogue, the European Parliament strengthens the ability of political leaders to develop true inter-party dialogue and to build the consensus necessary for generating a democratic parliamentary culture and trust. The implementation of the Dialogue forms part of the Roadmap of Activities in Support of Democracy that was agreed by the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the European Parliament.
