Igor Grosu about Cabinet reshuffles: Some ministers are vocal, while others are more timid

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, the presdient of the ruling Party of Action and Solidairty, said the subject of Cabinet reshuffles is the Premier’s prerogative. The party periodically assesses the work done by each minister of the Cabinet, but a decision concerning eventual dismissals is taken by the Prime Minister. The social problems, the energy crisis and aspects concerning the strengthening of the country’s defense capacities are key on the ruling party’s agenda, IPN reports.

As regards the unprecedented rise in fuel prices, Igor Grosu said the government is looking for solutions to support particular categories of citizens. The exclusion of the VAT and excise duty paid on fuel is not an equitable solution.

“We must help those who are most seriously stricken. We took a step towards the farmers when we decide to refund 30% of the value of the excise duty on diesel fuel. We are considering additional support. But there should be a balance. Yes, the fuel prices grew abnormally, but the grain prices also grew. We must help the famers, carriers in a targeted way. One person has a modest car that is used seldom, while another person has a Porsche. Should we offer assistance to everyone?” Igor Grosu stated in the talk show “Secrets of the Power” on JurnalTV channel.

The Speaker noted that strengthening the defense capabilities is the current government’s priority. Amid the regional security crisis, the outfitting of the National Army with modern equipment is of the utmost importance.

“The Republic of Moldova will benefit from €40 million for strengthening the defense capabilities. After the invasion of Ukraine, all the countries – small, big, neural – reconsidered their defense priorities. Any state that respects itself, either neural or a bloc member, is obliged to take care of the own security, the army. The rule saying you enjoy as much security as you invest in it works perfectly. But we have partners that we hope will help us in difficult situations. But the partners also inquire if the state strengthens its defense capabilities itself. Nothing was invested in time. The army was the Cinderella. Emphasis only on social aspects has been placed so far. We now have to also think about the defense capabilities, what kind of defensive armament we need and we will do this,” said the official.

The PAS president thanked the ministers of the Gavrilița Government for the work done in the context of the multiple crises experienced by the Republic of Moldova. Igor Grosu said the party assesses the performance of each minister, but a decision as to Cabinet reshuffles will be taken by the Prime Minister.

“We have more dynamic ministries with vocal ministers, while other ministers are more timid. We have our own internal assessments, but it is the duty of the Premier to propose reshuffles when she considers that this is necessary, stated Igor Grosu.
