Igor Dodon’s kamikaze-like attempts failed, analyst

“Igor Dodon’s desperate kamikaze-like attempts to modernize the Communist Party failed and thus he decided to detach himself and to start his own political voyage. Two Communist MPs followed him and I assume that Igor Dodon enjoys powerful support from Russia as there are credible rumors that he is supported in Moscow,” the editor-in-chief of the journal “Contrafort” Vitalie Ciobanu has told Info-Prim Neo. According to Vitalie Ciobanu, Igor Dodon did not make a secret of the Moldovan ideology that he shares, but this offers him no chance of beating his former party chief Vladimir Voronin as regards anti-Romanianism. “Igor Dodon is a younger politician and this gives him certain advantages. He is more flexible, more pragmatic and is ready to cooperate with the AEI for the country’s benefit, under certain conditions. Anyway, it is an interesting event on the political arena. There is hope that the early legislative elections will be avoided and we will see if the leaders of the AEI prove wisdom. Igor Dodon offered to give three votes to the candidate for the presidency on certain conditions and this is a positive thing as nobody needs early elections,” said Vitalie Ciobanu. Asked if it’s possible that the defection of the three lawmakers from the PCRM is a political game of the Communists, where Zinaida Greceanyi is the politically unaffiliated candidate about which they spoke and whose aim is for the PCRM to manage Moldova through Zinada Greceanyi, Vitalie Ciobanu said it is a rather sophisticated scheme for the PCRM. “Mark Tkachuk may be a showman, but I don’t think he can go so far. But Moldova is the country of all possibilities. Zinaida Greceanyi may remain a candidate for the presidency, who will be backed not by the PCRM, but by the AEI,” said Vitalie Ciobanu. He also said that these politicians face the risk of being discredited. “They now risk their credibility and the chances of an independent political project aimed towards the East, which could help unlock the political crisis and would lead to the creation of a party, possibly left, Democratic one, which would try to attract voters from the PCRM. There appear more possibilities for the politicians, for the AEI,” said Vitalie Ciobanu. On November 4, Igor Dodon, Zinaida Greceanyi and Veronica Abramchuc left the PCRM, arguing that they offer a solution to the political crisis and are ready to give their votes for an apolitical candidate, who forms part of no alliance or political organization, has the necessary abilities and is respected in Moldova and abroad.
