Igor Dodon’s brother-in-law gets 20 more days of remand detention

The Ciocana court extended the warrant for the remand detention of the brother-in-law of ex-President Igor Dodon for a period of 20 days. This is suspected of complicity in unjust enrichment of which Dodon is accused, IPN reports.

The prosecutors asked to extend the period of arrest for 30 days, but the court decided in favor of 20 days. “Given that the prosecutors’ request was accepted partially even if sufficient arguments were presented to extend the warrant for 30 days, the decision will be challenged in the Chisinau Appeals Court,” said the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.

Igor Dodon’s wife is also accused of complicity in unjust enrichment and was banned from leaving the country. The politician, who is now under house arrest, describes the case as a political one that is handled by order of President Maia Sandu.
