Igor Dodon will negotiate with AEI only after it finds a candidate

The chairman of the Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM) Igor Dodon said the parliamentary group of the Socialists will not hold negotiations with the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) until the alliance names a common apolitical candidate, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”The behavior of the leaders of the AEI becomes ridiculous and revolting. It arouses dissatisfaction among its supporters and serious suspicions among those who accepted the method of dialogue and compromise. In the current critical conditions, instead of showing coherence and responsibility, some of the AEI leaders make aberrant statements that go beyond the limits of common sense,” Igor Dodon told a news conference on February 21. He said he suspects that some of the leaders of the ruling alliance already started the mechanism of causing early legislative elections. Therefore, the Party of Socialists will soon enter the pre-election campaign with a very harsh message against the government. Igor Dodon refused to say what actions he meant. The Socialist leader promised that the press will be invited to all the negotiations with the alliance. “It would be right for the AEI too accept the presence of the journalists so that the negotiation process is more transparent,” said Igor Dodon. He stressed that the PSRM has several candidates for the post of President, but will put forward proposals only when the alliance identifies a common candidate. An incident happened during the news conference. A man who presented himself as the representative of the Youth Organization of the Social-Democratic Party of Moldova threw an egg at Igor Dodon. He was taken out by representatives of the PSRM. The man gave the press a communiqué according to which Igor Dodon promotes the interests of the AEI and helps the alliance to maintain in power. Referring to this case, Igor Dodon said more such incidents will take place as there are persons who make everything possible to hamper the efforts aimed at finding a solution to the political crisis. “We will see who this person represents,” he stated. The AEI is looking for a candidate for the presidency. The Democratic Party announced that it submitted a list of possible candidates to the AEI. The Liberal Democratic Party was also to present a list to their alliance colleagues. The Liberal Party said they will propose no candidate. The head of state is elected by 61 votes. The alliance has 58 votes, while the group of Socialists three, plus unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea. The Communist Party does not attend the Parliament’s sittings.
