President Igor Dodon said a European prosecutor will not be accepted to manage the Prosecutor General’s Office, as the Bloc ACUM wants. He noted he is not against having foreign persons as consultants, but the key posts should be occupied by Moldovan citizens. The issue was discussed in a program on NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.
“We understand their position and understand that they promised to their voters, but we also made many promises to our voters. We are trying to find the middle ground. We will not give up our program and will deliver the promises we made to the voters. For the purpose, we needed a parliamentary majority. Those of the right should tell the same to their voters,” stated President Dodon.
He noted there are matters that the Socialists cannot accept in the current conjuncture. Thus, they will not accept a foreigner as prosecutor general. “Not because we are against European, Russian or Chinese specialists, but if we are an independent state and are sure that the Republic of Moldova should exist as a state, citizens of the Republic of Moldova should hold the key posts. Otherwise, we will turn into a state with foreign administration,” stated the official.
Igor Dodon said he does not believe that this issue will serve as a reason for ending the cooperation with the Bloc ACUM.
He also said that the Transnistrian issue should not be raised in the current conjuncture and the small steps policy should be continued here. The parliamentary coalition is yet rather fragile and cannot focus on the complete resolution of the Transnistrian dispute.
