Igor Dodon: We should have early parliamentary and presidential elections simultaneously

The presidential elections should be held simultaneously with the early parliamentary elections, the chairman of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon said in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

The Socialists’ leader expressed his conviction that the early legislative elections are inevitable even if the President will be now elected by the people, as earlier. “The situation in the country is very difficult. Those from the government will ultimately have to concede as they will be unable to keep the situation under control,” he explained.

Igor Dodon considers that the latest unionist trends are an additional reason for holding early elections. “The people are very concerned about what is going on in the country as regards unionism. Over 70% of the population is against the union with Romania. This would cause a civil war,” he stated.

The leader of the PSRM denied the accusations of the “Our Party” leader Renato Usatyi, who said that Igor Dodon struck a secret deal with Vlad Plahotnic as to his candidacy for the post of President. “Initially, we combined forces in order to remove the oligarchic regime. But Usatyi got angry with the Constitutional Court because he does not have the required age to run for the presidency. He behaves like a child who was dispossessed of toys,” he said.
