The leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said he approves of the lifting of the immunity for MPs, regardless of the parliamentary group of which they form part, so that the local elected officials are not privileged. However, he considers the acting prospector general’s request to strip MP Ilan Șor of immunity is a show aimed at giving the impression of the reformation of the justice sector, IPN reports.
Igor Dodon said he will urge his colleagues from Parliament to vote in favor of the lifting of the immunity for Ilan Șor, even if there are doubts about the integrity of acting prosecutor general Dumitru Rubu. The current government creates a repressive system by which they try to penalize with criminal cases all those who do not obey the government.
“This is a move aimed at distracting attention from other things. What is the purpose of stripping Șor of immunity if he is outside the country and cannot be found? Just to make a show? They stage all kinds of displays with persons in balaclavas, go to people’s homes and arrest them and call this justice sector reform. They force people to write denouncements so as to start searches. Everyone understands that these cases will not have an ending in court. They try to jail by a judge so as to scare the others and make them do as the government tells them to do. But this cannot last long as any such case will be lost at the ECHR,” Igor Dodon stated in the talk show “Prime Time” on PrimeTV channel.
He also said that even if he quit as president of PSRM, he remains near his party mates. The party will be managed by a collegial board and he will hold an honorable post in the party.
“The PSRM will not have a president. It will be led by a collegial body consisting of the members of the political executive. The national council will decide how many persons will form part of it, five, seven or nine. My colleagues asked me to continue to be near them and I will evidently not leave as I built this party. Most probably, I will be less visible,” noted Igor Dodon.
The Extraordinary Congress of PSRM will convene on December 18. This is to approve the updated statutes and political program of the party.
