The President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, urges Prime Minister Maia Sandu to think twice about the consequences that could have the dissolution of the Government, if the censure motion in Parliament is carried. The head of state considers that this is the only chance to avoid political instability in the country and urges the Government to withdraw its bill on assuming responsibility for amending the Prosecutor's Office Law, which envisages the proposal of candidates for the post of prosecutor general directly by the prime minister, reports IPN.
"One must calm down, partners should sit down at the negotiating table, find a common denominator, the Government should withdraw its initiative, to find a way to streamline the Government activity so that the people waiting for results receive them. If we cannot do this, we must say that we are not in a position to do so”, declared Igor Dodon on " Glavnîi vopros" show, NTV Moldova. Igor Dodon argues that he will do everything in his power to get the coalition partners back to the negotiating table.
The head of state is convinced that if the draft law on assumption of responsibility had been sent to the Venice Commission, it would have received a negative opinion. Also, Igor Dodon believes that the Government brought in the assumption of responsibility after one of the leaders of the ACUM bloc, Andrei Năstase, lost the fight for the mayoralty of Chisinau municipality. "If we are in a team, of course this initiative must be withdrawn. Today, Maia Sandu scored a goal on her own net, as she put forward an initiative that no one seconds,” stated the president.
Furthermore, Igor Dodon affirms that the Socialists will not form a coalition with the Democrats after the fall of the Government and if an agreement with the ACUM bloc is not concluded again.
The president further insists that snap parliamentary elections should not be held because citizens have grown tired of going to the polling station so often. At the same time, even if an early election is imminent, then, in the opinion of the country’s president, it should take place next autumn, along with the presidential election and must be conducted based on the proportional system. "We are ready for snap elections, all are ready, but it is preferable to avoid them. I believe that the president and the Socialist Party will play an important role in the coming weeks, in avoiding snap elections. I think we will succeed, "said the head of state.
On Friday, November 8, the Socialist Party filed a censure motion as a result of the Government’s assumption of responsibility for amending the Prosecutor's Law.
