Igor Dodon: Transnistrian conflict can be resolved in three years

The President of Moldova Igor Dodon, in a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow, said the Transnistrian conflict can be settled in three years. A relevant roadmap was transmitted to the Russian side, IPN reports, with reference to the online publication RIA Novosti.

In the same connection, Vladimir Putin said Russia can take part in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks as a guarantor, if the sides reach a compromise.

According to the Russian President, Igor Dodon’s visit to the Transnistrian region shows wish to restore the relations and the country’s territorial integrity and is a sign of respect for the inhabitants of the region.

RIA Novosti says 60% of the Transnistrians are Russians and Ukrainians who want the region to become independent from the Republic of Moldova because they fear Moldova could unite with Romania. As a result of a failed attempt by the Moldovan authorities to solve the problem, the Transnistrian region became a territory that is not controlled by Chisinau.
