Igor Dodon: Transit through Moldova could be banned

Before banning flights from Italy or other states to Moldova, the transiting of Moldova by citizens of other states with outbreaks of the COVID-19 could be prohibited, President Igor Dodon was quoted by IPN as saying in a news conference given after the meeting with the Premier and Parliament Speaker.

“It think it is premature to ban now flights from Italy or other countries to the Republic of Moldova, but given that Romania already imposed bans, I suggest working out a mechanism to allow only citizens of the Republic of Moldova to fly home from countries with outbreaks so that citizens of other affected states do not transit Moldova,” stated President Dodon.

According to him, if Romania bans flights from Italy and other countries with outbreaks, Moldova cannot become a zone of transit for the citizens of these countries.

Romania suspended flights to and from Italy for two weeks as of March 9, midday, as Minister of Home Affairs Marcel Vela announced last night after the meeting of the National Committee for Special Emergency Situations. The Romanian authorities said the access of foreigners who come from Italy China, Iran, South Korea to Romania is allowed through all the terrestrial frontier posts, but only under the mandatory quarantine measure.
