Igor Dodon to run for second term in office

The Central Election Commission received the documents for registering the initiative group in support of Igor Dodon as an independent candidate for office of President of the Republic of Moldova. The group is led by Socialist MP Vlad Batrîncea, IPN reports.

In a press briefing after the receipt of the documents, Igor Dodon said he took the decision to compete in the November 1 presidential elections following the support given by the citizens of the Republic of
Moldova to him, with the firm conviction that the socioeconomic initiatives launched during his first term should be continued.

“My first term of office as President was difficult. At the first stage, I had to deal with an oligarchic regime that we managed to remove. At the second stage, we were hit by the pandemic and drought, the economic crisis that is unprecedented in the modern history of the Republic of Moldova. I consider I coped with these challenges,” stated Igor Dodon.

He noted that the country at this stage needs a powerful, responsible leader with character who respects the country, the citizens and the traditional values. “I wish good luck to all the electoral competitors. I hope we will have a correct, democratic campaign. The people will judge and assess us all,” said President Dodon.
