“This is a sensitive issue,” President Igor Dodon stated when he was asked, in a press briefing, if he will demand that the Turkish teachers, who were expelled last September, should be brought back to Moldova and tried here. The question was put in connection with the protest mounted by the wife of one of the expelled teachers, who were convicted in Turkey, in front of the Presidential Office last weekend.
President Dodon said the teachers are citizens of Turkey and the demand made by one of teachers’ wives to the President should be discussed with the Turkish authorities, IPN reports. Igor Dodon said he was officially invited by the President of Turkey Recep Erdogan to pay a visit to Ankara on December 30, where he will discuss the subject of the expelled Turkish teachers, if he goes.
While in Ankara, President Dodon is to sign a number of bilateral agreements and to take part in the meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council between the two states.
