Igor Dodon: Tens of thousands of people will wear ribbon at Victory March

Former President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon said he will not comply with the law that bans the use of symbols that promote war and actions that incite hatred. Among these symbols is the black and orange ribbon of Saint George. This year the party Dodon leads as president of honor intends to stage the traditional Victory March and the participants will be encourage to wear the ribbon of Saint George. Igor Dodon noted that if the people are fined for not obeying the law, they will mount protests in front of the Government Building and Parliament Building, IPN reports.

“Tens of thousands of people will wear the ribbon. I will also wear the ribbon on May 9 and will urge everyone to take the penalty notices and come to the Government and Parliament the next day or in a week and we will hand them over, including to Miss Maia Sandu. We will go to her office and will give them to her. Don’t play with the people’s memory as the people will not forgive you for this. You should better focus on the multitude of problems you need to solve. On May 9, we will wear the ribbon at the Victory March in Chisinau and in districts and I’m sure of this as I know what the people think about it. If the tens of thousands of people are fined, we will go to the Government and will hand the penalty notices over to them,” stated Igor Dodon.

In the last sitting of Parliament, the PAS MPs adopted amendments to the Contravention Code, introducing fines for the dissemination and promotion of symbols and elements that encourage military aggression, war crimes and crimes against humanity. The fine for breaking the law is up to 9,000 lei for private individuals and up to 18,000 lei for legal entities. The bill will take effect after it is given a second reading.
