The Socialists have never been anti-Romanians, but are and will always be anti-unionists, the leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon said in a meeting with Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the party.
The Socialist leader stated that the PSRM is for efficient and long-term cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Romania in all the areas of common interest, especially taking into account the multiple common aspects of history, traditions and culture.
Igor Dodon said the Socialists will not allow unionist movements aimed at dismembering the Republic of Moldova to develop on the country’s territory. “For the PSRM, there are three values that cannot be subject for discussion: Moldova’s statehood that includes the Moldovan language and the history of Moldova; the country’s neutrality and t protection of the Orthodox-Christian values. Based on these positions, we are ready to discuss and find solutions to any problem,” he stated.
Speaking about the relations with the European Union, Igor Dodon said that judging by the events that take place in the European community, Moldova’s prospects of becoming a member of the EU are very vague. According to the Socialists, Moldova must modernize its economy, implement reforms in different areas, fight corruption and restore the relations with the Russian Federation, where the Moldovan goods are in demand and where most of the Moldovans abroad work. “This way Moldova will become a prosperous state,” noted Igor Dodon.
The meeting also involved ex-ambassador Andrei Neguta, a Socialist MP, and diplomatic adviser at the Embassy of Romania Mihai Tican.
