The team of the Party of Socialists is the only one that can be in power instead of Maia Sandu’s party and Maia Sandu herself, said Igor Dodon, who recently returned to the PCRM as its executive secretary. According to him, the PSRM is united and is ready to cope with all the challenges faced by the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
In a news conference, the politician said that there have been speculations about the dismemberment of the PSRM, but the party’s team is now cohesive. As to those who left the party, the Socialist leader said that “these no longer exist from political viewpoint” for them.
Igor Dodon was asked about the criticism leveled at the Socialist MPs who recently met in Moscow with representatives of the ruling United Russia Party that allegedly promotes and authorizes all the war crimes against Ukraine. He noted that the PSRM signed agreements of cooperation with a number of political parties from other countries, including Russia, with the party ruling there and with an opposition party. “We consider these interparty relations perfectly comply with the legislation of the Republic of Moldova. All these accusations and insulations bear no relation to the betrayal of the interests of the Republic of Moldova,” stated the politician.
In another development, he said that President Maia Sandu’s announcement of the staging of a National Assembly called “European Moldova” on May 21 is a political PR action of the ruling party and of the President herself. This has nothing to do with the national interest of the Republic of Moldova and the announced event can be even regarded as a party demonstration.
In the April 10 meeting of the PSRM’s National Council, MP Zinaida Grechanyi was named president of honor of the Party of Socialist (PSRM), while Igor Dodon, who held this post, was appointed executive secretary of the party after he announced his decision to vacate the seat of MP and to concede the administration of the PSRM to a collegial body. He argued that he does not want to be tied to the parliamentary agenda and that his role of opposition leader will be more active outside Parliament. He also noted that he does not want to hide behind parliamentary immunity since the prosecutors started criminal case against him.
