Igor Dodon seeks inspection posts for opposition

The leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon called on the ruling parties to yield certain institutions with inspection duties up to the opposition, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on April 3, Igor Dodon announced they will start drafting a bill on the opposition after they hold consultations with other representatives of the opposition. “We consider there should be created a legal framework that would stipulate the role, rights and obligations of the opposition. I also refer to the right to put forward bills in Parliament and to have these bills included in the agenda,” he said. The PSRM considers the practice of 2005-2006, when the opposition managed some of the inspection bodies, should be restored so that the opposition also has instruments for influencing governance. In this connection, the leader of the Socialists welcomed President Nicolae Timofti’s readiness to support the adoption of such a bill. “The head of state has the right to submit legislative initiatives and we expect Mister Timofti to fulfill the commitments he made. He said that the opposition should not be marginalized. It should have a say and be efficient,” stated Igor Dodon. According to the lawmaker, the Party of Socialists will organize a series of consultative meetings with the opposition forces that express interest in the mentioned bill. There will be drafted a functional bill that will be presented to Nicolae Timofti. Igor Dodon also spoke about the Antidiscrimination Bill, saying he will not vote for it. According to him, the non-adoption of this bill cannot hinder Moldova’s integration into the EU as there are EU member states that did not pass such a law.
