The leader of the group of Socialists Igor Dodon said he was satisfied with the meeting he had with the AEI’s presidential candidate Nicolae Timofti on Wednesday, but needs to have one more meeting with him to obtain the final answers. “A large part of the answers he gave are close to our political views, but one more discussion is needed,” Igor Dodon said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. After the closed-door meeting that lasted for an hour and a half, Igor Dodon said that it was a good, sincere and open discussion. “The impressions are rather good. I received answers to a series of questions. We discussed many subjects concerning the internal policy, Moldova’s territorial integrity and the country’s prospects in the cooperation with the East and the West,” said the lawmaker. Igor Dodon refused to say if Nicolae Timofti passed the statehood test that the Socialists intended to give to him, stressing that a President must pass this test not only when running for the post, but also every day. Nicolae Timofti did not make statements for the press. After the meeting that will be held with Nicolae Timofti on March 15, the National Council of the Party of Socialists will convene to take a final decision whether to support the candidate for the presidency or not. As to the meeting with the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, Igor Dodon said that they discussed the opposition’s boycott and the possibility of holding early legislative elections. “We reached a number of conclusions that I will not make public now. But they will be very useful when taking final decisions on matters of strategic importance for Moldova,” said Igor Dodon.
