Igor Dodon says he could run in sap elections if these take place

President Igor Dodon does not rule out the possibility of running in snap parliamentary elections if these take place. According to him, snap elections will be most probably held this September or October. The probability of snap elections now rose to 70%, IPN reports.

“If the bloc ACUM does no develop the self-defense feeling, does not contact the PSRM and does not accept the Socialists’ proposal, snap legislative elections will take place,” President Dodon stated in the talk show “Friday with Anatolie Golea” on RTR Moldova channel.

He noted that if the current Parliament does not elect the Speaker by June 21 and will be thus unable to adopt any law, he will go to the Constitutional Court and will seek the dissolution of the legislative body. In the middle of July, he could sign the decree to dissolve Parliament and to set the date of snap elections.

“Given the 60-day period of the election campaign, theoretically the campaign can start on August 1 and end on September 30 or it can start on September 1 and end on November 1,” said President Dodon.

According to him, if snap elections are held, the fate of the bloc ACUM will be very uncertain. But the Socialists will obtain more seats of MP in these.

As to the local elections, Igor Dodon said these could not take place this year as the date of elections is set by Parliament. However, the Constitutional Court could interpret the Constitution and empower the Government or the President to call the local elections.
