President Igor Dodon said the decision not to run on the list of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) in the upcoming parliamentary elections will bring benefits to the party. He explained that this way he will have meetings with different foreign officials without being restricted somehow. Igor Dodon does not hide his preferences for the PSRM and said the fact that he will be able to freely take part in TV programs in the period is an advantage, IPN reports.
President Dodon said that as a candidate for MP, he wound’s have been able to hold the meetings planned on the foreign agenda. “The candidate for MP cannot meet with foreign politicians as this must avoid being subject to external influence. I think this was done to our detriment, but we do not intend to break the law,” the president stated in a special edition on NTV Moldova channel.
Igor Dodon said that next week he will have a meeting with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. According to him, if he is unable to have meetings with foreign officials, this will be unfavorable for solving the country’s problems.
He also said that his role in the electoral and post-electoral periods is important. Furthermore, if the parliamentary majority is not formed, the legislature will have to be dissolved and early parliamentary elections will have to be held. “The President should not be involved in these processes,” stated Igor Dodon.
