Igor Dodon says Association Agreement with EU could be denounced

The President of Moldova Igor Dodon said in Moscow he does not rule out the possibility that the Association Agreement with the EU will be denounced after the 2018 legislative elections, which is the position of the Socialist parliamentary group that is the largest, and the Head of State will support such an initiative, IPN reports, quoting RIA Novosti.

“We understand that there is an Association Agreement with the European Union. Personally, I often pronounced against the signing of the agreement and consider that this accord produced no good results for Moldova. We lost the Russian market and, even if it may seem strange, our exports to the EU market also decreased. So, we obtained nothing after signing this accord,” Igor Dodon told a news conference given after the meeting with Vladimir Putin.

RIA Novosti specifies that the Republic of Moldova and the EU signed the Association Agreement, which includes the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, in 2014. After this was ratified, the Moldovan-Russian relations have worsened. Under the Agreement, Moldova should open up its market for the EU products.
