The Party of Socialists (PSRM) will support no initiative to dismiss the President so as not to allow those from the parliamentary majority to take over, the party’s leader Igor Dodon said in a news conference, reiterating that the Socialists insist on the dissolution of Parliament and on early elections. On January 16, the party will mount a large-scale protest in front of the Parliament Building, IPN reports.
“I think now an increasing number of people realize that the early parliamentary elections are inevitable. The PSRM stated its opinion on this motley majority. We consider this majority has no chance to change the situation. We expressed out opinion about the fielding of different candidates and announced that we will take part in no special sitting of Parliament, if only the decision to dissolve Parliament and to call early elections needs to be taken,” stated Igor Dodon.
The Socialists welcome the President’s decision to reject the candidacy of Vlad Plahotniuc for Prime Minister. “We earlier stated that we will vote no candidate, no matter who he/she is. We will not vote candidates for Prime Minister within this Parliament because we think that only the early elections are a solution. We consider that if the head of state does not nominate a candidate by the end of Thursday, there are legal reasons to start the procedure for dissolving the legislature tomorrow already. It’s no use losing time,” said the Socialists’ leader.
Igor Dodon also said that the Socialists during the last few years have sought the removal of President Nicolae Timofti and continue to think that he must not be the head of state, but his dismissal now would pave the way for the unionists and oligarchs to hold power during the next three years.
“In October we put forward an initiative to dismiss the head of state. This wasn’t supported. Now the Socialists will support no initiative to dismiss the President as Timofti’s dismissal now will lead to a deeper political crisis. If he is discharged, the head of Parliament can propose the wanted candidates for Prime Minister,” said the leader of the PSRM.
The politician noted that at 12 noon on January 16, the PSRM will stage a large-scale protest in central Chisinau to demand early parliamentary elections.
Igor Dodon announced he now goes to support the protest mounted by the “Our Party” near the Parliament Building against the nomination of the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc for premiership.
