The Party of Socialists’ candidate for President Igor Dodon made a call for unity in the name of the national interest. The politician promised that if he is elected Head of State, he will make effort for the Republic of Moldova to become an important player on the international political arena, IPN reports.

“Today, when the country is devastated by so many problems, the old squabbles between the left and the right must be left in the past. Independence, territorial integrity, right to self-governance, economic sovereignty, protection of the traditional values, Church and the family must represent the pillars of a defense and development program for any responsible political force of our country,” stated Igor Dodon.

The candidate added that so far he presented himself before the people as a party leader and from this position he could be passionate and could share particular views of pronounced ideological character. But as a President he will assume another mission. “A Head of State must be the main player who unifies the people. In this regard, I will treat with equal respect, love and responsibility all the country’s people, regardless of the ideological, cultural or geopolitical preferences, as long as these preferences and actions do not threaten the existence of the state,” said the politician.

Igor Dodon noted that the utilization of the status of neutrality to full extend will mean for him a special opportunity to reach agreements and to establish economic partnerships with different countries of the region.
