President Igor Dodon has announced a legislative proposal for amending the normative framework so as to allow implementing an additional mechanism for ensuring state protection for persons involved in the investigation of cases of national interest, such as judges and prosecutors, when there are imminent dangers of attack on their life and health while fulfilling their duties, IPN reports.
President Dodon said that under the legislation, this category of functionaries is under the protection of the state. In case of any forms of attacks on their life and health, the state will make use of all the instruments provided by law so as to protect the persons and their families and to guarantee their right to be supplied with defense devices by the internal affairs bodies.
The legislative proposal ensures additional protection. President Dodon said he has received different signals from the competent state bodies as to the tendencies to exert pressure and to intimidate decision makers involved in the investigation and trying of cases of public and national interests, such as those concerning the bank fraud and concession of the airport.
“Such threats can endanger the life and integrity not only of the persons involved in the investigation process, such as prosecutors and judges, but also of the members of their families,” the official posted on Facebook.
Last week, President Dodon said the former leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc exerts pressure on judges and prosecutors so that these do not take decisions to his detriment. He noted that the prosecutors and judges are afraid and ask for guard for the reason that they are blackmailed into accepting money to defend Plahotniuc. It is hard for those who are honest to work in such conditions. “Dear judges and prosecutors, don’t be afraid as no one will harm you. Just obey the law. I will not become involved, but you should identify yourselves those three-four judges. You know who defends the interests of Plahotniuc and Shor,” stated President Dodon.
