The post of Parliament Speaker would be a guarantee for the Socialists because the President of Moldova Igor Dodon was suspended for five times during the past two years and a half. When the President is suspended, the Speaker acts as the Head of State on an interim basis, Igor Dodon explained in the program “Fourth power” on N4 channel, IPN reports.
“It is almost impossible to remove the Speaker of Parliament. During the last ten years of pro-European government, the Speaker was removed only once, in 2013,” stated President Dodon.
He noted he did his best as the President of Moldova to ensure the formation of a parliamentary majority. The Bloc ACUM will be responsible for snap elections, if these take place. However, until the National Council of the Party of Socialists didn’t take another decision, there is one more chance of breaking the deadlock.
Asked if the PSRM is ready to form an alliance with the Democratic Party, President Dodon said the last decision of the party’s National Council clearly says that either a majority is formed with ACUM or snap elections should take place. “Let’s presume that the Democrats are ready to accept the conditions we imposed for forming a coalition with ACUM. The Socialists would be in put in the situation to decide what they should do. At the current stage, I cannot say what they can do. I can only say that the Socialists at present do not consider the possibility of forming a coalition with the PDM,” he stated.
According to Igor Dodon, the period between June 3 and 7 will be the most important one as the Constitutional Court is to then pronounce on the possibility of dissolving Parliament. “The last week will be the week when a final decision as to the formation of a government is taken,” he noted.
