Support for the municipal police, strengthening of the functional capacities of the law enforcement bodies and restoration of certain concessions granted to them – these are some of the promises made by the PCRM's candidate for mayor of Chisinau Igor Dodon. The candidate presented his platform in front of the Ministry of the Interior on May 18, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Over the first four months and a half of this year, the number of crimes increased by over 35% compared with the corresponding period last year. More than 12,400 crimes have been recorded in the municipality of Chisinau alone. This number is much higher compared with 2010. Five murders and over 540 thefts were reported in Chisinau municipality last week. The problem resides in the inefficient administration of the affairs. The illegal annulment of concessions for employees of the law enforcement bodies led to a large number of resignations and, consequently, to a rise in the crime rate in Chisinau and the country,” said Igor Dodon. He pledged that if he is elected mayor, he will create joint teams consisting of carabineers and volunteers to maintain public order, will institute a day guard system at kindergarten, schools and medical institutions in order to protect the population, especially children, and will increase the number of district police officers. A former employee of the law enforcement bodies Vladimir Panfilov, who runs for the seat of municipal councilor on behalf of the PCRM, said the crime rate in Chisinau is one of the highest among the cities of Central and Eastern Europe. “This is proven by a survey carried out in the UK this year. The high crime rate is due to the absence of responsible policies in the local public administration and the discrediting of the representatives of the law enforcement bodies,” said the candidate.
