President Igor Dodon said he will have a discussion with the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky to consider the illegal checkpoints set up in the Security Zone most probably at the start of next week. Igor Dodon said he will ask to restore the situation that existed before March, when there were no such checkpoints, IPN reports.

In the program “President Responds”, Igor Dodon said that as Vadim Krasnoselsky stated after the meeting they had at the end of July, of the 37 checkpoints created by the Transnistrian side on the pretext of preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic from the right bank of the Nistru, only 11 remained.

In another development, President Dodon commented on Russia’s refusal to implement the ECHR decisions in two cases, of 2018 and 2020, by which inhabitants and farmers from localities that are situated in the Transnistrian region, but are administered by the Moldovan constitutional authorities (Cocieri, Molovata Nouă, Doroțcaia, Pohrebea and Pârâta) were awarded damages that are to be paid by Russia for being prevented from cultivating their land located beyond the Râbnița-Tiraspolroad in 2004-2006.

“As far as I know, the Russian Federation does not implement the ECHR decisions and not only those that refer to cases involving Moldova. They adopted a firm position, amended the Constitution and said that their internal rules or laws are above the international commitments. It was the Russian Federation’s decision,” stated President Dodon.

He yet noted that he knows about this case and during a visit he paid to the aforementioned villages, he was handed over a set of related documents that he passed on to Russia with the request to solve the problem, but it is the Russian Federation that decides how to act.
