The President of Moldova Igor Dodon said that if the parliamentary groups during the next two weeks, until June 7, do not reach an agreement as to the formation of a government coalition, he will sign a Parliament dissolution decree. He made the announcement in a press briefing, noting he went to the Constitutional Court to clarify when the three-month period after which Parliament can be dissolved starts: when the seats of MP are validated or when the legislature constitution sitting is held, IPN reports.
Igor Dodon noted that for the first time since the proclamation of Independence, a Parliament Speaker wasn’t elected and a parliamentary majority and a Government weren’t formed almost three months after the legislative elections. He condemned the political selfishness and exaggerated ambitions of some of the MPs and parliamentary groups. According to him, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova wait for results, for a parliamentary majority and expect the MPs to start work.
President Dodon addressed the MPs, saying they either start work and form a parliamentary majority, choose the administration of Parliament and constitute the Government or admit that their ambitions do not allow them to come to terms and snap elections would thus be held.
The MPs of the Political Bloc ACUM DA PAS and of the Party of Socialists made several attempts to discuss parliamentary cooperation possibilities. ACUM pleads for a minority government, the election of a Parliament Speaker representing the bloc and adoption of a package of anti-oligarchic laws. The Socialists insist on the formation of a parliamentary majority and want to name the Speaker themselves. The Democratic Party invited the MPs of ACUM to discussions for two times, but the latter refused to take part.
