Igor Dodon on a visit to Japan

President Igor Dodon is making a visit to Japan to attend the ceremony of coronation of Emperor Naruhito. In a Facebook post, the president has said that over 150 heads of state and government will participate in the festivities and that he plans to hold bilateral meetings with foreign leaders, IPN reports.

According to the president, in Japan, he managed to visit the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Tokyo and had discussions with the diplomatic mission employees. He mentioned that during the last years the bilateral relations between Moldova and Japan have recorded a significant increase in dynamics, Japan being one of the most important external partners of the Republic of Moldova.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Japan has provided financial assistance to Moldova totalling over $ 150 million, mainly in the field of agriculture, regional development and environment. The volume of foreign trade of the Republic of Moldova with Japan constituted in 2018 over $ 54 thousand.

In the Republic of Moldova, 13 companies with Japanese capital operate, with investments worth over 115 thousand lei. According to the number of companies benefiting from investments, Japan ranks 40th among the main investors of the Republic of Moldova, while according to the amount of investments made in share capital, it ranks 43rd.
