Igor Dodon: No protests. I will tell you if we need to take to the streets

Incumbent President Igor Dodon, who didn’t manage to secure a new term in office according to the preliminary election results, called on his supporters to keep calm. “Definitely, no destabilization and protests. I will tell you if we need to take to the streets. We will not yield to provocations and will not mount protests. We will follow the legal path,” Igor Dodon stated on November 16. He congratulated his opponent Maia Sandu on her ‘preliminary’ victory, IPN reports.

“The preliminary results show my opponent, Missis Maia Sandu, is the winner. These are the preliminary results and I want to congratulate her preliminarily on this. I yet want to say that our electoral staff noticed a number of unprecedented violations in these elections,” Igor Dodon stated after the meeting with the Parliament Speaker and the Premier.

According to him, among the violations are the blocking of the right to vote of the citizens residing in the Transnistrian region, illegal transportation of voters in EU member states, involvement of different Western officials by statements and influencing of the election outcome.

The politician said he is obliged to defend the vote of those who voted for him by all ways – the Central Election Commission, the courts of law, the Constitutions Court. If these institutions confirm that the elections took place correctly, he will end this election campaign.

According to the preliminary results of the presidential runoff, Maia Sandu won 57.75% of the vote, while Igor Dodon – 42.25%.
