Igor Dodon met with Štefan Füle in Brussels

The chairman of the Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM) Igor Dodon and European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle had a meeting in Brussels. The two officials discussed the political and economic situation in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communiqué, the PSRM says that Igor Dodon reasserted the Socialists’ position that the political crisis in Moldova can be overcome if the head of state is elected by the current Parliament or if early legislative elections are held provided that the presidential elections fail. According to a press release from the European Union Delegation to Moldova, the discussions centered upon the current talks on the Association Agreement, which will set the framework for intensifying the political association and economic integration between the EU and Moldova. Štefan Füle voiced hope that a solution will be found soon so that the President of Moldova is elected for the benefit of all the people. In the end, the officials agreed to hold a continuous dialogue to strengthen cooperation in the future. While in Brussels, Igor Dodon also met with Vice President of the European Parliament Libor Roucek, who heads the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament. Igor Dodon has been in Brussels on a working visit on February 6-7.
