Igor Dodon met with Pope Francis

“The people of Moldova are promoters of the Christian values. Christianity, which is the religion of most of our people, has a decisive influence on our identity and the moral values of our people,” President Igor Dodon said in a meeting with Pope Francis, IPN reports.

President Dodon said the Republic of Moldova declares its support for the development of the interreligious dialogue and strengthening of the partnership in the social, educational and medical spheres. He expressed his recognition to the Pontiff for solving contemporary problems of major importance and for his involvement in establishing a dialogue between civilizations and religions.

He appreciated the cooperation between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches, saying this has been developed continuously and efficiently during the last few years. In this connection, Igor Dodon noted that the resumption of the direct dialogue between the Bishop of Rome and the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia will contribute to strengthening the country and protecting the fundamental Christian values, especially to defending the Christians in the regions where these are persecuted and discriminated.

President Igor Dodon is paying a working visit to Italy during November 4-6. He will also have a meeting with his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella and with representatives of Italian business circles and the Moldovan diaspora in Rome.

In the pictures of the meeting with Pope Francis, Igor Dodon appears alongside his wife and two of their three sons.
