Igor Dodon met with his Russian counterpart

President of Moldova Igor Dodon had a meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the meetings of the CIS Council of Heads of State and the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council held in Sochi. The Moldova official spoke about the Transnistrian conflict, saying Moldova is for politically resolving the dispute within the talks in the “5+2” format, by respecting the sovereignty and territory integrity of Moldova and giving a special status to the Transnistrian region, IPN has learned from the presidential press service.

“We are ready to continue to promote a direct dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol at the level of leaders, political representatives, representatives of civil society and working groups with the aim of building confidence for solving current problems faced by the population from both sides of the Nistru. We continue to count on Russia’s support in promoting the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and want real progress to be made in this regard this year,” stated Igor Dodon.

He noted that the Moldovan political elite include persons who do not welcome the improvement of the Moldovan-Russian relations and the development of the strategic partnership with Russia. The Government and the parliamentary alliance controlled by countries from the West make effort to undermine the relations between the two states. President Dodon said he categorically disapproves of any anti-Russia manifestation in Moldova, such as the deportation of Russian officials, journalists and artists and the anti-Russia propaganda in the media.

Dodon assured Putin that he will promulgate no anti-Russia law even if the parliamentary alliance adopts this two times. This also refers to the bill to ban the broadcasting of Russian news bulletins and programs in Moldova.

Igor Dodon requested his Russian counterpart to support Moldova’s request to be given the status of observer at the Eurasian Economic Union, to extend the list of Moldovan companies that would have access to the Russian market and to forgive the Moldovan citizens who violated the procedures for entering and leaving Russia.
