"Local elections have been held freely and democratically, which shows a return to normality, after many years in which the electoral competition was severely affected by incorrect methods practiced by certain parties or politicians, who were trying to decide instead of citizens ". The statement was made by President Igor Dodon, on his Facebook page, IPN reports.
The head of state noted the "extraordinary" result obtained by the PSRM in these elections at country level. According to him, PSRM has also registered a very good result in Chisinau, increasing its number of mandates in the Municipal Council and becoming the clear leader of the first round for the mayor election.
The head of state has called upon parties and politicians to show political maturity in the campaign for the second round, to conduct a fair electoral competition, in the democratic spirit, focused on identifying solutions to solve the problems faced by citizens, not on ad hominem attacks.
Igor Dodon mentions that there are many settlements where a competition between PSRM and ACUM, the parties that form the majority coalition, will take place. "I think it is important that the politicians of these parties understand not only the stakes of the second round, but also of the country’s future, which are much more important, as they have to work together in the coalition. The hard times for the majority coalition have just started, and in order to fulfil the commitments of the agreement signed by the component parties, it is necessary to be able to work together after these elections as well,” stated Igor Dodon.
Moreover, the president believes that the low voter turnout must be an alarm signal for the entire political class.
